Mobile Phone G3 Service Coming to Canada via T-Mobile?
I keep hearing about the great “G3” mobile phone Internet service available in the U.S. I usually just think “huh?” and keep going. But today I decided to look into it a bit. Canada is always way behind the U.S. providers so I wasn’t expecting to find much.
It seems Rogers Wireless uses the service for it’s new video voice conferencing, but it is not currently used for Internet access. I looked a little further and found an article on MobileInCanada.com which reports that T-Mobile is looking to come to Canada and start up a brand new 3G network.
That news gets my heart racing! A brand new mobile carrier in Canada, offering high-speed Internet on a cell phone! If this were to happen, I doubt that T-Mobile would launch with data plans that match the current Canadian model (e.g. we pay big bucks for very few MBs of download) and they would be the ones to drastically lower the prices.
The only catch here is that T-Mobile will need to win the 700Mhz spectrum auction to be able to set up the new service.
What do you think of this news and what do you think of T-Mobile as a cell phone service provider?
