I just had two fabulous weeks of vacation out in the quiet cottage country of Ontario (the Haliburton cottage country) and I cam back refreshed!  It is amazing what two weeks of no stress can do to a person.
I came back to work ready to focus on the tasks in front of me.  Unfortunately, I [...]

It’s true.  We really are our own worst enemy.
Social engineering attacks are becoming so common that we see them daily in our email.  We hear about people getting swindled at their homes too.  A phone call comes in and you’ve won a contest for a free vacation.  Sure, sometimes they are just marketing ploys to [...]

I just finished working on my taxes.  Yes, I’m a little slow, but there’s still time!
I used QuickTax up until 2003 and then in 2004 I switched to TaxWiz because I didn’t like paying Intuit the extra money for the “QuickTax” name.  The reality was that, for a basic tax return where you fill in [...]

Vista SP1 Installed

Well, I did it.  Yesterday I installed Vista SP1.  Why?  Well I have noticed an issue in the last week where my powered USB hub would stop working correctly.  I thought that maybe the update might correct that occasional hiccup.  Time will tell.

I’ll report back if I notice any wackiness.  So far so good though!

So I’m a techie.  I love gadgets and computers and I like learning new stuff.  When Vista was on the way, I was excited.  But I own a computer that I bought in September 2004.  When Vista was released in January 2007, I listened to the warnings from people like Leo Laporte, Andy Walker, and [...]

I have a feeling that my grandchildren will not watch television or at least, not very much of it.
I’m seeing this pendulum swing that is just beginning really.  It started with video blogging who are really the new broadcast pioneers.  In reality, they are narrowcasters though.
I am finding, more an more, a reliance on [...]

Do you subscribe to any “digital magazines”?  I’m not talking about web sites that claim to be magazines.  I’m talking about the ones that are actually a true magazine converted to a digital format in which you can flip through the pages like a real magazine.
I currently get two magazines in this format:
eWeekComputerWorld Canada

My mind has been working overtime lately and I couldn’t quite figure out what it was.  It has finally hit me.
For the last several years I’ve felt as if I’m not moving forward much, as if time was sort of standing still.  I was seeing small changes in my interests but nothing more than little [...]

Stumbling around

No, I’m not drunk nor taking one too many pills (or anything else that might spring to mind).  I just wanted to give a shout out to the website StumbleUpon.

I recently discovered this site and decided to add the toolbar to my Firefox browser.  I was skeptical about how useful it would be.  But I [...]

Well, its been a year since Microsoft launched Windows Vista.  There’s been tons of press coverage on it and all the issues that it has brought forward.  And for once, a new OS launch got retailers to promote the previous version of an OS on their computers, hoping to not turn people off!
My situation
My primary [...]
